What does it mean to be a Buddhist?

Question?: What does it mean to be a Buddhist? Have we asked ourselves this question before? Are we a Buddhists by birth and just blindly following our parents or our tradition? If we want to be a real good Buddhist, what should we do?

Answer: The Lord Buddha gives a simple answer on how a lay person could practice to be a real good Buddhist. The answer lies in practicing Dana, Sila, and Bhavana. These three Dhammas, Dana, Sila and Bhavana are the fundamentals of righteousness and wholesomeness and also the foundation of the Buddha's Teachings, called the Dhamma. This is the real human treasure which a Buddhist should follow, and which if practiced by the whole humanity will lead to greater peace and harmony in this world.
