【佛門的「合掌」】
佛門的「合掌」代表什麼意義?
合掌是將兩隻手掌合起來,十根手指頭併攏,
又稱「合十」,表「合十法界於一心」。
十法界就是佛、菩薩、聲聞、緣覺、天、人、
阿修羅、地獄、餓鬼、畜生。
向人合掌,就是對人尊重,對人有禮貌,對人感謝,
就是以全心的尊敬,對人行禮,是很有意義的。

Glimpse of Dharma
One
young academically excellent person went to apply for a managerial position in
a big company. He passed the first interview, the director did the last interview, made the last decision. The director discovered
from the CV that the youth’s academic achievements were excellent all the way,
from the secondary school until the postgraduate research, Never had a year
when he did not score.
The
director asked, “Did you obtain any scholarships in school?” The youth answered
“none”.
The
director asked, “Was it your father who paid for your school fees?” The youth
answered, “My father passed away when I was one year old, it was my mother who
paid for my school fees”.
The
director asked, “Where did your mother work?” The youth answered, “My mother
worked as clothes cleaner. The director requested the youth to show his hands.
The youth showed a pair of hands that were smooth and perfect”.
The
director asked, “Have you ever helped your mother wash the clothes before?” The
youth answered, “Never, my mother always wanted me to study and read more
books. Furthermore, my mother can wash clothes faster than me”.
The
director said, “I have a request. When you go back today, go and clean your
mother’s hands, and then see me tomorrow morning”.
The
youth felt that his chance of landing the job was high. When he went back, he
happily requested his mother to let him clean her hands. His mother felt
strange, happy but with mixed feelings, she showed her hands to the kid. The
youth cleaned his mother’s hands slowly. His tear fell as he did that. It was
the first time he noticed that his mother’s hands were so wrinkled, and there
were so many bruises in her hands. Some bruises were so painful that his mother
shivered when they were cleaned with water.
This
was the first time the youth realized that it was this pair of hands that
washed the clothes everyday to enable him to pay the school fee. The bruises in
the mother’s hands were the price that the mother had to pay for his
graduation, academic excellence and his future. After finishing the cleaning of
his mother’s hands, the youth quietly washed all the remaining clothes for his
mother. That night, mother and son talked for a very long time. Next morning,
the youth went to the director’s office.
The
Director noticed the tears in the youth’s eyes, asked: “Can you tell me what
have you done and learned yesterday in your house?”
The
youth answered, “I cleaned my mother’s hand, and also finished cleaning all the
remaining clothes”.
The
Director asked, “please tell me your feelings”. The youth said, “Number 1, I
know now what is appreciation. Without my mother, there would not the
successful me today. Number 2, By working together and helping my mother, only
I now realize how difficult and tough it is to get something done. Number 3, I
have come to appreciate the importance and value of family relationship”.
The
director said, “This is what I am looking for to be my manager. I want to
recruit a person who can appreciate the help of others, a person who knows the
sufferings of others to get things done, and a person who would not put money
as his only goal in life. You are hired”

佛陀的最後教誨 --- 佛弟子一定要牢記
導語:一個人的心,可以使人成為佛,也可以使人成為畜牲。佛陀最後的教誨中說到。佛陀最後的教誨告訴了我們什麼,讓我們聆聽佛陀最後的教誨,感悟佛陀的大智慧。
在橋薩羅國、娑羅樹林,佛對他的弟子作了最後一次的教誨;佛說:“要自己度自己,不要依靠其他。要為自己作照明、要以我的教義作照明、不要依其他外道教義。”
“想一想,我們的形軀,它們都穢污不淨。痛苦與快樂,是苦,我們怎可以縱容自己?想一想你的形軀生命;他們都是如此短促非恆。想一想一切物體的本質;所有它們的積習,能不能避免,無常和腐朽?不必強求拒絕痛苦,只要依循我的教誨,你們都會解脫。若能這樣做,你們都是我真正的弟子。”──佛叮嚀
“我的弟子們:我給你們的一切教誨,你們要永遠記著,不要忘記。我的教誨值得你們永遠思維,它們是永恆的財寶。若依循我的教誨,你們永遠快樂。”──佛繼續嚀叮。
我的教誨的要點是:“你們要降服自己的心,要遠離貪欲。要使自己行于正軌,要使自己清淨,要使自己忠誠,你們要記住:形軀生命是短暫的。如果能夠這樣思維,你們將可以遠離貪欲、瞋恚。你們可以遠離不善。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“當你們發現自己被貪欲引誘的時候,你們一定要自我降服。你們要做自己的心的主人,不要做心的奴僕。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“要知道:一個人的心,可以使人成為佛,也可以使人成為畜牲。‘心’悟,這人成佛。‘心’迷,這人可以成為邪魔。所以:你們必須降服自心,不要使它離開正軌而入岐途。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“你們要依循我的教誨:你們不要彼此爭辯,要互相敬重。你們不要像‘水’和‘油’彼此排斥,你們要像‘水’和‘乳’互相交融。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“你們要在一起學習,在一起研究。你們要在一起共同修行。你們不要虛耗精力,不要糟蹋時間在那些怠惰的生活和無益的爭論中,你們要以悟道的花朵和果實而為樂,這是法樂。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“一切我的教誨都是由我親証而來。你們要好好地學它,在任何情形下,都要依循它的精神而行。如果你們疏忽了它,即使你站在我身旁,但並沒有見到我。如果你依循我的教誨,即使你遠離我,但你實際在我身旁。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“我的弟子們:我最後的時候已經到了,我們分別在即。不要悲泣;生命本來就是無常,沒有人能避免。我也一樣。我的形軀生命就要消逝,它像一輛腐朽的車乘終歸敗壞。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“不要作無益的悲泣;要記住生命是短暫,是無常。你們要由此悟証空理,由無常悟証真常。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“貪欲之魔,經常在尋機會在去欺騙人們的‘心’;如果有一條毒蛇住在你的屋子里,你想得到安寧,你必須首先把他驅逐出去。你必須驅逐你生命里的貪欲毒蛇。你必須善于護持你自己的心。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“我的弟子們:我最後的一刻已降臨。你們不要忘記;‘死亡’是形軀生命的消逝。形軀生命由父母而來,由物質糧食而養育。它們不能避免‘老病’和‘死亡’。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“但我的真正生命是法身,不是形軀。形軀會消逝,是無常。法身卻永恆,不生不滅。見到形軀的我,他們未見佛,依循我的教誨,即是見佛。”
佛陀最後的教誨:“在我入滅之後,我的教誨就是你們的老師。依循我的教誨而行,你們一定會見到我。”
“在最後的四十年來臨我所有的一切,全都已經教導了你們。我的教誨,沒有秘密、沒有隱藏。一點一滴地、全部地、公開地、清楚地、教授了你們。”我親愛的弟子們:我的教誨至此亦結束,在短時間內,我就要入涅槃。這就是我教誨。”
從人生的開始到人生的結束,佛陀最後的教誨囊括了人的一生,我們應當謹記佛陀最後的教誨。

《佛示四種雲喻》 佛典故事
佛陀昔日在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園弘化之時,為比丘眾開示:天上的雲層有四種狀態,是哪四種呢?有一種雲層出現時會打雷但是不降雨;有種雲層出現時只會下雨,卻不會震雷;還有一種雲層出現時,不但大雨滂沱,同時雷電交加;另有一種雲出現時則不降雨也不響雷,這就是雲出現時不同的四種狀態。
如同這四種雲一般,世間上也有四種修行人,哪四種呢?有的比丘像是雲出現時,只打雷而不降雨,有的比丘則像只降雨而不打雷的雲,也有比丘像是雲出現時,既不降雨也不打雷,或者有的比丘像是既會降雨也會打雷的雲。
什麼樣的比丘像只響雷而不降雨的雲呢?這些比丘精進誦讀研習佛陀所演說的契經、祇夜、受決、偈、本末、因緣、已說、生經、頌、方等、未曾有法、譬喻等十二部經之教法。他們不僅善於誦讀經教,也能明瞭當中的義理,但是卻沒有廣為眾生說此法要。這樣的比丘就像是只響雷而不降雨的雲。
什麼樣的比丘像是雲出現之時,只降雨而不響雷呢?有些比丘威儀莊嚴端正,出入行來、應對進退皆如法得宜,並精進修習一切善法,戒慎而不敢有所漏失;然而,他們對於佛法卻不能廣學多聞,也不高聲誦讀研習經典,同時並沒有依著契經、本末、授決、偈、因緣、譬喻、生經、方等、未曾有法等佛法義理如法修行。但是這些比丘很樂於跟隨在善知識身邊學習,能夠將所聽聞的真理信受而不忘失,也樂於為眾生說法,這種比丘就像是只降雨而不打雷的雲。
什麼樣的比丘像是不降雨也不打雷的雲呢?他的威儀不夠端正,出入行來、應對進退之間不能如法得宜,不但不修學種種善法,也不樂於聽聞、誦讀經教,更不依循契經乃至方等之十二部經的教理來修行,也不樂於為他人說法。這種比丘就像是既不降雨也不打雷的雲。
什麼樣的比丘像是雲出現之時,既降雨也震雷呢?他的外相端正莊嚴,出入行來、應對進退皆如法得宜,並精勤修學佛陀的教法,並且能憶持不忘;更樂於為眾生說法,積極勸導他人修行,使之能信受奉行,此種比丘就像是既會降雨又會震雷的雲。
諸位比丘!這就是世間上的四種修行不同的出家眾,你們應當精進修學,成為能夠降法雨、震法雷的修行人。
當時,比丘們聽聞佛所說法,皆法喜充滿、依教奉行。

省思
佛以四種雲譬喻修行。無雨無雷的雲層,猶如缺乏善法與智慧的修持,行者應當避免;若只響雷而不降雨,只能自利卻不說法令他人蒙受法益。又經云:「善知識者,梵行全體。」善知識,是道業成辦的全部因緣。依止善知識,與賢聖共行,動止有法可則,言行有所典範,這樣的行者就像只降雨而不響雷的雲層,雖無廣學多聞之智,卻樂於宣揚佛法,可在利他中完成自利。既會降雨又會震雷的雲,猶如修行人自利利他的菩薩行履,廣積福慧資糧,將來定能成為降法雨、震法雷的法門龍象,廣利有情。

【出離心 捨離五欲的心 】聖嚴法師
修行不能沒有出離心,沒有出離心而想開悟,那一定是外道。目前有人自以為在教禪,自命為禪師,但是不離五欲,認為釋迦牟尼佛也不離欲,並且主張在欲中才能真正地修行。那是外道,不是佛法。有出離心才能出三界,才能在生死之中自在,才能不被五欲勾引、不受塵境動搖。
有人會以為出離心是小乘,禪是大乘,兩者無關。不對!人間的倫理道德、小乘的出離心、菩薩的菩提心,這三樣具備了才是大乘的禪。若沒有以出離心作基礎,那便是戀世的心、貪著的心,或者是含藏慢心、狂心的一種英雄主義。所以,沒有出離之念,就不能稱作是菩提心。
「人欲橫流」的時代,物質文明的誘惑太多,所以要出離很難。因為出離心,必得離五欲。如不離五欲,則梵天都生不了,何況要證大小乘的聖果。既想開悟證果,又想不離五欲,是絕不可能的。
出離心實在難發;正在五欲中打滾的人,要他生起出離的意願,非常不容易。現在的臺灣,學佛學法的人好像很多,而且似乎也很用功。但其中有人,只是想從師父這裡學點東西,然後出去逢人販賣而已,甚至自己也當禪師主持禪七;真的要他發出離心就不容易了。可是,必須先有出離心才有可能了生死。想得虎子,必得有入虎穴的勇氣,有此勇氣,努力愈大、信心愈強,修行才能得力。
有了出離心,才會死心塌地好好用功,為佛法作干城,不貪戀世間所有,只以清淨的佛法作依歸。
已經有家有業不太可能出家的人,仍然要有出離心,才不會受到世間人事的誘惑和影響而煩惱不已。有出離心,才能了知苦空無常,並且體驗到世界是苦空無常的。
許多人誤解,以為有出離心就是不要世間、不要父母、不要兒女……通通都不要了,那叫逃避現實。出離並不是厭離、不是逃避。若父母健在而不盡子女的責任,這就不對。釋迦世尊出家時,父母有人奉養,生活無虞。六祖惠能大師當初要去求法,也是先安頓好了老母。所以在家也好、出家也好,發出離心,並不表示不負責任。出離是不佔有,權利可以不要,責任一定要負。父母遺產可以不要,父母若無人奉養,托缽也要奉養。

Question: Why do some who pray to Buddha faithfully, who are even vegetarian for many years die of incurable sicknesses?
Answer: Life is
already a fatal disease for every unenlightened human, whether vegetarian or
not, Buddhist or not. It has
never been the case that all Buddhists will not get sick or die. In fact, in the Buddha’s time, there were
only a few disciples who never got sick in their entire long lives. (One of
them was Ananda, the Buddha’s personal attendant.) This was due to their very
strong compassion and positive karma, as partially created in their lives then,
and partially accumulated from their previous lives. Being able to depart not
due to sickness (but of old age naturally) likewise requires much positive
karma. Also, although many in the Buddha’s time attained liberation from the
cycle of birth and death, many others who encountered the Buddha’s teachings
did not straightaway transcend death. This is so as they needed more time to
master the teachings taught.
We ought to remember that the First Noble Truth taught by the
Buddha includes the inevitability of birth, ageing, sickness and death for the
unenlightened. We also
have ripening negative karma from past lives to deal with. For instance, while some Buddhist
vegetarians’ lifespans might not seem particularly longer or healthier than
average, they could have lived less and in more sickly ways if they did not
turn vegetarian, which does create positive karma to dilute existing negative
karma’s effects. The severity of sicknesses and pains involved could be less
and better handled than others too. All in all, faith aside, it is
statistically true that vegetarians, or better yet, vegans, have longer average
lifespans with better health than others. (Note than vegetarians who still
consume dairy products still remain susceptible to bone-related diseases,
cancer and such.)
Although they are invaluable practices, being Buddhist is not merely about
praying to Buddha and not eating animals. Buddhist practice also
includes learning the more profound teachings well, for cultivating purer
conduct in thought, speech and action with greater compassion and wisdom. Those
who truly practise the Buddha’s teachings well can indeed lessen suffering of
ageing, sickness and death, even if not yet enlightened. They are able to age
more graciously with less physical and mental ailments, and depart peacefully,
or even blissfully, as in the case of proficient Pure Land practitioners, even
possibly skipping severe ageing, sickness and the usual dying process. Upon
reaching Amituofo’s (Amitabha Buddha) Pure Land for further training towards
guaranteed enlightenment, even before attaining liberation in terms of
enlightenment, they will already be liberated (or ‘cured’) from the suffering
of ageing, sickness and death.

《忏悔的重要》
当我们犯了错误之后,一定要在佛前诚心忏悔,痛改前非;那么忏悔到底是什么呢?
忏,就是忏除过去所犯的过错;悔是后悔,改过自新。忏悔是对自己所犯的错误,生起悔过心理,痛改前非,保证不再犯第二次了。
忏悔是人格的清洗剂。佛陀在经中说:有两种人在修学佛法上能有成就,第一种是能如法如律的去修行、生活,不会犯罪;第二种人是犯罪之后能忏悔。一个人有缺点错误并不可怕,可怕的是犯了错误,没有悔过之心,这种人才是最可怕的。所以,当我们犯了错误之后,一定要诚心忏悔,痛改前非,保证以后不再犯罪,这样在修学佛法上就能有所成就。

不要浪費掉任何一次回向的機會無論你是多有經驗的佛法修行者,很重要的是要記住這個修行訣竅:就是讓你的一切修行和生活中的行為都能利益自己與他人和眾生。
敦珠仁波切說,佛法修持真的不是那麼困難,一切都取決于發心。
因此,永遠別忘記要生起利益一切有情眾生直至圓滿証悟的發心。即使只是點燃一支蠟燭,你的發心愈廣大,你積聚的福德就愈多。
如果你點燃蠟燭只是為了裝飾客廳,那麼,你有的是一般人的發心。
如果你點燃蠟燭是祈願積聚福德,而終能摧毀輪回,那麼,你的態度就與聲聞乘修行者相同。
如果你點燃蠟燭是祈願將所獲得的任何福德回向一切有情眾生的証悟,那麼,你的態度就與菩薩乘修行者相同。
將蠟燭視為智慧之光,照亮一切有情眾生,而且光所到之處都成壇城,這是密乘修行者的態度。
但是,大多數的時間,我們似乎無法記住這些重要的指導,而當記得時,以它們來修持又經常變得不必要的複雜。
在這年頭,我常聽許多修行者說他們想做長期的閉關,或想對上師做大量供養,或想做其它大規模的舉止,希望能一次就積聚大量的福德。
因而,你供養一朵花給佛,並且思惟:“願此供養在究竟上能利益一切有情眾生”。你就會積聚無量的福德。
我們每次修持結束時,不僅為自己的安樂,也要為一切有情眾生的利益與証悟,回向你所獲得的任何福德。而且,你不必等到一座修持結束才回向,任何時候都可以做回向。
你可以試著在每次大禮拜後回向,這樣可以保証不會浪費掉任何一個大禮拜的福德。
你也可以將所有在過去生中忘記回向的福德拿來回向,例如這段祈請文:我以剛才積聚的一切福德,過去生中積聚而遺忘的一切福德,以及未來世將積聚的一切福德,回向一切法界眾生之利益與証悟。祈願一切有情眾生離苦得樂,早証佛果。
回向給眾生帶來功德利益的事例,古往今來在高僧大德的傳記中比比皆是,佛經中也不勝枚舉。
佛陀在廣嚴城的時候,那里的信眾准備在第二天迎請佛陀,供養午齋。
當天晚上,有五百餓鬼來到佛陀面前請求:“明日供養您的善根,可不可以回向給我們?”
佛陀明知故問:“為什麼要回向給你們呢?”
那些餓鬼回答:“我們是廣嚴城這些人的父母,以吝嗇之業而轉生為餓鬼。”
佛陀說:“你們明天前來就可以,不來的話,不行!”
餓鬼們說:“我們長相這麼醜陋,若被親朋好友看到,實在不好意思。”
佛陀說:“如果你們不來,我也沒辦法回向。”
最後,餓鬼們只好答應了。
第二天回向時,五百餓鬼如約前來,廣嚴城的人們驚慌失措、四處逃竄。
佛陀告訴他們:“你們不要害怕,這些餓鬼是你們父母轉生的,它們生前為了你而造惡業,如今變成這樣的身相,是否能將善根回向給它們?”
人們回答說:“既然如此,無論如何也要回向給它們。”
佛陀回向後,那些餓鬼都轉生到三十三天去了。
所以,回向對眾生真的有無量功德利益。一般來講,很多眾生沒有機會行持善法,若看到自己的親朋好友生病了,或自己比較熟悉的人故去,應該馬上念藥師佛心咒、觀音心咒、南無阿彌陀佛來回向,這樣他們一定都能受益。
